Headspace In The Mountains

Anxious thoughts can be overwhelming and can distract us from leading a happy life. Understanding more about who we are and what we are going through can help us to maintain a positive mind-set. When we are in a good headspace, our mind is clear and calm, even whilst there may be potential distractions.  

Experiencing different emotions is a huge part of being human. We should never try to suppress how we are feeling. When we are busy, our minds can quickly become overcrowded with thoughts. We must remind ourselves every day to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. When we feel happy in the midst of anxiety or confusion - this is what it means to me to have headspace. Headspace is the ability to see thoughts, acknowledge them, understand them and then let them go if they no longer serve us.

Learning to snowboard has helped to give me headspace. Focusing my attention on learning a new skill for a couple of hours each day has been a distraction from any negative thoughts. Being outdoors in the fresh air has made me calmer and has enabled me to take some time out for myself.

Being surrounded every day by beautiful scenery makes me feel extremely grateful. Experiencing gratitude can make us appreciate the little things. Use a couple of minutes each day to think about how grateful you are. Be grateful for good health, good opportunities and the beautiful wonders of the world around you.

Spending a couple of minutes a day in silence can help clear our heads. I enjoy the time I spend on the chair lifts, looking at the views around me. The mountains make me feel peaceful. Time in silence has taught me that we can shape our own thinking to focus on the thoughts that are only going to lift us higher. It has taught me to let go of the thoughts that no longer serve me.

Today I am so much stronger than I was 3 months ago. I am in a good headspace and I have the mountains to thank for it.
